There was no formal assignment for this relatively new topic in nursing. This assignment was created to assist the student to become familar with this content as it is now part of the NCLEX exam and is unfortunately a part of our reality as nurses.

Rationale for assignment:
As the RN Manager and Provider of Care as well as Member of the Discipline we must possess basic knowledge of disaster terminology and management of such patients. Please utilize your medical surgical textbook, course notes and the following web site as you respond to these questions.

The questions are designed to encourage the student to become better acquainted with situations that could escalate into mass terror. In the midst of such potential chaos health care workers are charged with keeping a calm demeanor to promote optimal care. This is a group project that will be limited to three students per group. The student will include the information source in the response. The Instructor will formulate a list of critical thinking questions, scenarios, etc based on the course educational outcomes on the topic of Disaster Nursing. There will be a total of "X" number of groups [based on class size] and it is possible that two groups will share the same questions. It is hoped that the small group number will encourage everyone to participate.
Posting the information to a wiki site will allow students to experience communication and teamwork in a manner that may be new to them. The wiki allows group members to appreciate each person’s contribution as well as allowing members to add to the discussion. This medium [wiki] will be discussed more in class on "date". Members of the group must demonstrate ongoing discussion [a minimum of three entries per student] at the wiki site and all members will be expected to participate. The participation will be evident by the postings and the group members will be asked to rate each others participation with supporting rationale [see last page of this posting].
The groups will be asked to critique each others responses utilizing a simple rubric found at "location". This will be submitted to the Instructor who will them summarize the results and report back to the individual groups. The following are examples of questions that would be included.
